Education
We are committed to sharing the story of Banaba far and wide in diverse formats and platforms. We are also committed to supporting Banabans in their education aspirations. The foundation is particularly focused on the areas of education, social needs, gender issues, health and wellbeing, creative arts, environmental and cultural heritage. These areas reflect the work and expertise of the late “fiery canoe,” scholar, poet, teacher and activist, Dr. Teresia Teaiwa, co-founder, obstetrician and gynaecologist Dr. Maria Teaiwa-Rutherford, and co-founder, scholar, teacher and artist, Dr. Katerina Teaiwa.
Advocacy
Fiery Canoe aims to raise awareness of issues and needs Banabans themselves have identified from human and cultural rights to development, education and land rehabilitation.
